Meet Brian Hobson.

Brian M. Hobson

for

Minnesota House District 5A.

Brian is a 3rd grade teacher in Laporte MN. Growing up in Pine City Minnesota, Brian’s father was the superintendent of schools and his mother worked for the County Attorney’s Office. They instilled in Brian the importance of responsibility and doing what is right.

At twelve years old, Brian learned the value of hard work when he took over a fledgling lawn mowing business from his brother and grew it from a few lawns into a full-time seasonal business. Brian applied this same work ethic to his studies, eventually graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College.

Brian’s teaching career has taken him all over the state and beyond. He has taught elementary music in Hinckley, was the dean of students at a charter school in Blaine, taught younger students about technology, design and engineering in Menahga, and taught math, science and technology in Sweden for two years before returning to MN.

Throughout his teaching career, Brian has continued to grow his skills and professional credentials earning a master's degree and additional licensure areas. It is this same strong work ethic that Brian hopes to apply as your next State Representative.

Every day I am humbled by my good fortune.

I was fortunate to be part of a family that had a home with food on the table. I was fortunate to have parents who valued, expected and encouraged me to learn, travel, and make choices for my own future. I was fortunate to have learned the lessons of responsibility and integrity taught to me by many wonderful people.

I am humbled by my good fortune and what I do as a teacher. I hope to pay my good fortune forward as your State Representative.

Why I am running for State Representative.

  • I believe that justice and equality are attainable and we should continue to strive for these ideals. I learned from my parents, teachers, colleagues and mentors that we have a responsibility to care for each other and leave the world better than we found it. We, the people, and by extension our Government have the same responsibilities.

  • I believe in the inalienable right to vote without barrier, intimidation or interference. It is important that the results of free and fair elections are honored, not undermined. Representative government is not about propping up those who have the money and the power, but about improving all of our lives.

  • I believe in the hard working nature of rural Minnesota and want to help our communities nurture opportunities for our future generations with careers of which they can be proud, and the economic stability that they need to prosper.
